The name: In 1871 Scottish scientist James Clerk Maxwell proposed a thought experiment, that involved a hypothetical creature acting as a gatekeeper between two compartments to sort gas molecules according to their speed. At first glance, such a system could potentially create energy from nothing… theoretically impossible given the laws of physics. This hypothetical gatekeeper became known to physicists as Maxwell’s Little Demon, and has stirred debate in the science community for more than a century.
The wine: Aromas of freshly cut pear, lemon peel and red apple abound, alongside a lifted floral note. Bright citrus flavours illuminate the palate, filling the mouth with flavour. Made as an unwooded and dry style, the result is particularly elegant and persistent, and with a very clean finish creates a delicious, crisp wine.

2010 Adelaide Hills Chardonnay
The name: It was a straightforward decision to simply refer to this wine via its origin. The Adelaide Hills wine region neighbours McLaren Vale, and is in its own right a world-class region, being the home to many of Australia’s best white wines, including Chardonnay. These hills provide more elevated and cooler sites for viticulture, producing wines with good natural acid, structure and elegance.
The wine: Layered and elegant. The sophisticated palate is persistent in flavour combining a lemon minerality, melon and subtle French oak. Lees stirring has added a delightful texture and mouthfeel, creating a wine of balance, complexity and length. A superbly balanced Chardonnay that captures the essence of its cool-climate origin.

Rosé
2011 Where’s Molly Rosé
The name: Molly, a much loved German Shorthaired Pointer, was a gracious hostess at the Maxwell Winery cellar door. Not only was she very adept at disappearing quietly after greeting visitors to the winery, in her younger days she would wander the vineyards of McLaren Vale far and wide. Though she might not have necessarily known it, the question was often asked… “Where’s Molly?” A fun label for a fun wine, with photographs of 40 dogs, it really is a case of “Where’s Molly?” on the label too! Many of the dogs featured are pets of our cellar door members - with the owners kind enough to send us some terrific images to make this label possible. There is a subtle clue included on the label to help in locating Molly, just to keep everyone busy while enjoying the contents...

Sparkling
NV Envious
The name: A simple play on words - ‘Envious’ was chosen to represent our Non Vintage Sparkling wine, or ‘NVS’ for short.
The wine: Bright pale straw colour. Aromas of fresh green apple and citrus effervesce. The citrus flavours illuminate the palate and provide the wine with freshness. Delicate creamy yeast characters bring style and complexity, while a subtle melon note plays in the background. The wine has good length with a pleasantly dry finish.
