We were looking for a name that reflected an early, easy drinking red that had not been in barrel and so had fresh youthful charm. The word fresca ticked the box as it is spanish for "fresh".
Colour Light red / purple in colour.
Nose Aromas of fresh red fruits, plum and hints of fragrant vanilla.
Palate Lively flavours on the palate of plum and raspberry. The palate is light and refreshing with smooth tannins on the finish.
The winter of 2016 was very wet, with Pedler Creek flooding into some of our lower lying vineyards, a once in a decade event which refreshes the soils, allowing salts to be flushed away. From August to early January conditions were quite dry, allowing healthy restrained growth across the estate and average crop levels have resulted in high quality grapes. After many years of earlier starts to harvest, 2017 went back to the predictable 1st of March. The weather conditions were warm without any extreme heat events but a slightly wet period towards the end of April gave us a need to pick the last of the Cabernet and Grenache vineyards before any mould issues arose.
