How time flies! It is now 20 years ago that I built the winery, tasting room and cellars on the present site and asked the infamous Greg Trott of Wirra Wirra fame to ceremoniously ‘open’ the building. It is a testament to a talented builder (Greg Phillips from Westside Constructions) and the architect (Rolf Lengs) that everything has stood the test of time so well. There are always maintenance issues but overall we are still in one piece. We have improved air conditioning, expanded the kitchen and replaced barrels, and like my favourite R.M. Williams boots, the stainless steel tanks are showing no signs of wear. We have expanded the wine range since that time to include small batches of fun like the Eden Valley Riesling and a cool climate Shiraz from Kangaroo Island and this year’s club only ‘Fresca’. It’s also pleasing to still see annual growth in Mead appreciation after all this time. As we move forward, all eyes are on ensuring Maxwell remains on everyone's shortlist when visiting 'The Vale'.
