There are some exciting changes ahead for the vineyards at Maxwell!
The crew have been preparing new plots in our vineyards to diversify our plantings as well as increase our holdings of some of McLaren Vales staple varieties.
A couple of years back the decision was made to downsize the Petit Verdot plantings and in its place, we have planted more Shiraz and Cabernet, both varieties that do so well here in the Vale and that are the backbone of our wines you see in bottle. These plantings should be coming on board for their first harvest in 2021/22. However, it doesn’t end there! We are also grafting over some of our Verdelho and planting out some vacant vineyard area. These blocks are going to be filled with the likes of Fiano - an aromatic and often textural white, Mourvèdre – to complement our new GSM blend and Grenache Blanc – another aromatic, textural white that hails from Spain and southern France. These blocks won’t be ready for harvest for another 2 to 5 years, so we hope you can be patient and wait for these beauties to grow!
