A winery tour with a twist!
Your guided tour will start in the Maxwell cellar door, where you will receive your empty produce bag, ready to be filled.
You will then be led up to the vineyards to take in the beautiful views of McLaren Vale but keep your eyes peeled, your produce will be hiding where its journey first began!
Walking through the vineyards will give you an insight into just how much work goes into your favourite bottle of wine.
From Winter through to Summer, learn how the vines are cared for and how you can spot the difference in varieties.
Your tour will then bring you down to the Maxwell beehives where you will learn the importance of bees and how honey is used to make one of our iconic drinks…mead!
From here you will start your journey into the wine making process.
From the arrival of the grapes (or honey), to the press, to fermenting and blending.
Witness barrels of wine patiently waiting to be deemed ready and what process the winemaker goes through to make that call.
Your next stop is our 100-year-old Lime Cave – a unique and interesting part of Maxwell Wines!
Not only is our Lime Cave a sought-after venue space but it is also the perfect spot to grow mushrooms.
Find out how and why mushrooms thrive in this environment.
You will then continue down to the front of the property where our oldest shiraz vines grow.
Planted in 1953 the difference in soils here, helps produce our iconic Ellen Street Shiraz.
Lastly, a trip to Maxwell’s is not complete without a turn in the maze – who knows, you may find something more than just the centre!
